about
I was enlisted by my friend Nicole Unice to write a song to help illustrate a few sermons around Jesus' parable of the Prodigal Son. The sermons were about both perspectives of the two sons, so I decided to write about the third and final perspective: that of the loving and generous father, who says, "everything I have is yours."
lyrics
I saw you coming from a mile away
Didn’t know if you’d come back
Didn’t know if you’d stay
So I came running out
To meet you halfway
Just to show you that I love you
And just to say
Even when you
Leave sometimes
You still have my heart
You still have my eyes
My love will believe and endure
And here’s the truth:
Everything I have is yours
I watched you pitch your tent
Like you were on your own
Didn’t know if you realized
But you’ve always been home
I waited patiently
Until I heard you knock
Keep in mind for the next time
That I keep the door unlocked
Even when you
Leave sometimes
You still have my heart
You still have my eyes
If you choose to take detours
Here’s the truth
Everything I have is
Yours for the taking
When you hit your breaking point
I will be here
I will be here
Here for all the aftermath
Of all the worst and all the bad
Turns you might have made
While you were away
Even when you
Leave sometimes
You still have my heart
You still have my eyes
My love will believe and endure
And here’s the truth:
There’s nothing left to do
I couldn’t love you more
And everything I have is yours
